Cryptocurrency has taken the world by storm. In just a matter of a few years, it has gone from a very underground digital currency exchange to mainstream buyers, miners, and traders taking part in the buy and sell on a daily basis.
What is Crypto Currency?
Cryptocurrency is any form of currency that exists virtually and uses cryptography to secure transactions. Cryptocurrencies rely on a decentralized system to issue new units and record transactions. There is no one regulating authority like the Federal Reserve as we have for fiat currency and legal tender.
What is Crypto Mining?
Mining refers to the process where a global network of computers running the specific coin code work to ensure that transactions are legitimate and added correctly to the cryptocurrency’s blockchain. Mining is how new currency is entered into circulation.
You, the Miner, are using a computer to solve mathematically solve cryptographic equations with a programmed code and record that data to a blockchain. Miners verify the hashes of unconfirmed blocks and receive a reward for every hash that is verified.
The process is taxing on the computers the programs are run on and requires state-of-the-art hardware to work efficiently.
Building a computer that will mine cryptocurrency efficiently
Crypto mining works best on a higher-end system that is dedicated to mining rather than just sharing your own PC. The better the system, the faster your results.
What hardware do you need to mine cryptocurrency?
A mining rig is just a customized PC, so don’t be intimidated. It has all the normal elements of a personal computer – a CPU, a motherboard, RAM, and storage. What needs to be specialized are the graphics cards. The GPU does most of the hard work when it comes to mining cryptocurrency. You will need a very powerful GPU.
You have to connect multiple graphics cards to a single system, which means you also need a motherboard that is meant to take on all of that. You’ll also be looking at more than one power supply if you plan on doing a lot of mining.
There are also some other mining-specific items you’ll need to make the mining rig ready for mining. Thankfully if you are in the St. Petersburg/Tampa, Florida area Computers and Crypto of St. Pete is here to help. Contact us at (727) 291-3352 or stop by 2931 1st Ave S. St. Petersburg, FL 33712.
