Getting a room in your home remodeling is exciting! Your home is about to be transformed! Now, depending on the size of your room and the scope of work, home remodeling can take anywhere from weeks to months. If you’ve never had a home renovation, you’ve probably got a general idea of what it’s like from friends, family, articles and TV shows. However, you may not know all the gritty details of a home renovation. TV cuts out a lot of the problems, timeline, expenses, changes, etc. Home renovation is exciting, like we stated, but it also can be stressful.
We want to share with you some realistic things that occur during a home renovation so you can mentally prepare for the good and the bad.
- Your daily schedule will likely have to change or adjust to fit the renovation schedule. The home will be noisier. You can’t use the room you’re renovating, so you may have to use another bathroom or go to Starbucks instead of brewing your own coffee. Some of your habits may have to change during the remodeling. You can also let your contractor know where he can or cannot set up shop and work, so you have some areas that are still peaceful in your home.
- There will be dust during the renovation. Find out how your contractor plans on reducing or blocking dust from spreading. He could use an air scrubber or dust barriers. Try to make dust control a priority with your contractor.
- It can be stressful but try not to freak out or sweat the small stuff. It can be hard to focus when you have a lot of decisions to make or if the project hits a bump in the road. Regardless of any problems, your contractor is a professional and knows what he/she is doing. He/she will do everything in his/her power to get the job done in the timeline and budget your discussed. Throughout the renovation, communication is key with your contractor to feel better about the project. You may also want to find different methods of destressing like yoga, reading, walking, meeting with friends, etc.
Like stated above, despite problems and issues, if you communicate, you can make any renovation run more smoothly. Talk about dust. Talk about timelines. Talk about backup plans. Talk about privacy in your home. Overall, the good in a home renovation outweighs the bad, especially when you see how good your remodeled room looks.
